Detailed Private Tour Itinerary

The Half Day Tour of Athens begins with a scenic seaside drive along the Coast of Poseidon, tracing the Aegean Sea as it borders the Attica Region from Southwest to Southeast. Along the way, you’ll view Salamis Island, where the pivotal Naval Battle of Salamis took place between the Greeks and Persians, marking the onset of Athens’ Golden Age. The drive continues to the Marina of Zea, once a vital grain supply hub in antiquity and now one of the most exclusive yacht marinas in the world.

Your first brief stop is at the upscale Piraeus neighborhood of Kastela, where castle-like apartments overlook the beautiful leisure port of Microlimano (meaning "small port"). Continuing the journey toward Athens, you'll pass notable landmarks including basketball stadiums, soccer fields, the 2004 Olympic facilities, the Stavros Niarchos Cultural Center, and the Onassion Heart Surgery Center founded by Aristotle Onassis.

The tour's main highlight is a 60-minute visit to Greece’s most iconic landmark: the Acropolis. Perched 150 meters above sea level and fortified by an ancient wall, the Acropolis offered unparalleled defense in antiquity. You’ll enter through the grand Propylaea and admire the Temple of Wingless Nike standing nearby. At the summit, explore the Temple of Erechtheion, featuring the famous statues of the Caryatids, and the Parthenon, built entirely of Pentelic marble in honor of Athena. On your descent, visit the ruined Amphitheater of Dionysos, god of entertainment and wine, and the nearly intact Herodion, a 2nd-century theater still used for performances today.

The tour continues with a visit to the Hellenic Parliament, where you’ll witness the ceremonial changing of the National Guard and learn about the Greek Revolution of 1821. You'll also visit the Tomb and Statue of the Unknown Soldier.

After the Parliament, the drive takes you past the Catholic Cathedral of St. Paul, the National Bank of Greece, and the Old Parliament of Athens, now a museum. You’ll also see the "Trilogy of Athens," consisting of the Academy of Science, the University of Athens (Kapodistriako), and the National Library.

The next stop is at the Panathenaic Stadium (Kalimarmaro), a magnificent reconstruction of the original 2nd-century A.D. stadium built by Herodes Atticus. This stadium, which hosted the first modern Olympics in 1896, can accommodate 60,000 spectators and is famed for its marble construction.

Visit the Temple of Olympian Zeus, the largest temple in mainland Europe, and enjoy panoramic views of Athens from the 280-meter summit of Mount Lycabettus, the highest point in the city.

The tour concludes with a relaxing drive back to the Cruise Ship Terminal, Airport, or your hotel in Athens.
