Detailed Private Tour Itinerary
Day 1 - Argolis
The 3-Day Tour of Argolis, Olympia, and Delphi begins with a scenic seaside drive around the port of Piraeus and through the industrial areas of Aspropirgos and Eleusina, where you can watch cruise ships and tankers arriving in Athens. As you head out of Eleusina, the island of Salamis comes into view, a historic site where the Athenians defeated the Persian Empire in the naval battle of 486 B.C.
Continuing along the Argo-Saronic Gulf, you’ll stop for about 15 minutes at the Canal of Corinth, which separates Peloponnesus from mainland Greece. Afterward, the tour proceeds to Ancient Corinth and Acrocorinth (the Acropolis of Corinth), with a short drive around the archaeological site to view highlights like the Temple of Apollo, the Agora, and the Bema where Apostle Paul preached. Visitors can explore the site for 60 minutes.
Next, the tour visits the Fort of Acrocorinth, perched 575 meters above sea level, showcasing architectural influences from ancient Greek, Byzantine, Frankish, and Venetian periods. Notable features include the Temple of Aphrodite.
The journey continues to Mycenae, located about 30 minutes from Corinth. Here, explore key sites such as the Mycenaean Fort, the Lions’ Gate, Cyclopean Walls, and the Tomb of Atreus, with a recommended visit duration of 60 minutes.
The next destination is Nafplio, just 40 minutes away. Once the capital of the First Hellenic Republic and the Kingdom of Greece, Nafplio is known for its Venetian architecture, pedestrian streets, and shopping areas. Visitors will enjoy a 1.5-hour stop to have lunch and explore the old town.
The day concludes with a visit to Epidaurus, located 30 minutes from Nafplio. The main attractions are the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus, famous for its remarkable acoustics, and the Asclepion, a healing center dedicated to Asclepius. Plan for an average visiting time of 60 minutes at this site.
Finally, the tour departs Epidaurus and drives west through the scenic mountains and gorges of Arcadia for approximately 3.2 hours, arriving at Ancient Olympia at the confluence of the Alpheios and Kladeos rivers. After a drive around the old town of Olympia, visitors are free to explore the area or relax at a 4-star hotel.
Day 2 - Olympia
The day begins with a visit to the Archaeological Site of Olympia, which requires approximately 3 hours to explore. This significant site includes the Olympic Games Museum, the Archaeological Museum of Olympia, the Temple of Zeus, the ancient Stadium, and the Workshop of Pheidias. Visitors can also see several well-preserved structures, such as the Prytaneion, Heraion, Nymphaion, Treasuries, Metroon, and Stoa of Echo.
After touring Olympia, visitors can enjoy lunch before departing for Delphi. The drive to Delphi takes about 4.5 hours and follows the scenic coastline of the Ionian Sea and the Corinthian Gulf, crossing the Rio-Antirio Bridge that connects Peloponnesus to mainland Greece. A brief stop will be made in Nafpaktos to view the historic fortifications and the statue of Miguel de Cervantes, who fought at the Naval Battle of Lepanto in 1571.
As you leave the coastal area, the route ascends the slopes of Mount Parnassus, leading to a welcoming drive around Delphi, where you will spend the night at a hotel overlooking the Valley of Pleistos and the Corinthian Gulf.
Day 3 - Delphi
The final day focuses on Delphi, renowned for the Temple of Apollo, the Oracle, and the Pythian Panhellenic Games. The archaeological site and museum require approximately 2.5 to 3 hours to visit. While exploring the sacred way, you will see the old treasuries of Greek city-states, the Temple of Apollo ruins, the intact Amphitheater, the Polygonal Wall, the Temple of Athena Pronea, the Stadium, and the Gymnasium, where participants trained for the Pythian Games.
Travelers can later enjoy an authentic traditional lunch at a local taverna, offering stunning views of the Pleistos Valley and the city of Itea on the Corinthian Gulf. The tour concludes with a relaxing drive back to Athens, passing through Arachova and along the highway.
